In a world currently of Trump vs. Clinton, I have not heard a word about improving our health. Not a word. Sure we hear about the healthcare and making it available to everyone, or repealing ObamaCare or drugs for this and that to treat a disease or syndrome, with a laundry list of side effects that can include death!
In an Aug, 3rd 2016 New York Times response on the Putting Food Issues on Politicians’ Plates” by Kim Severson, Gene Baur, President and Co-founder of Farm Sanctuary stated “Politicians should be aware of the fact that animal agriculture is a major contributor to climate change and our planet’s most significant environmental problems. But rather than requiring factory farms to act more responsibly, they are relying on taxpayers to help clean up the mess.”
This is not a Blue or Red issue, this is the people issue. And, it is responsibility of the politicians sworn or appointed by our elected by the people politicians to do all that is right for its people. Especially when it concerns our health, food safety and environmental safety in which they are all literally linked. I still believe that if you as an individual in your local community speak, write, call connect to your leader in your community, district, county, state, a difference for the Better can be achieved
That Better comes in several forms.
- Better relationships with your community.
- Better understanding through the communication you will have with your community and leaders.
- Better leadership through understanding and communication that you’re elected officials will have to serve you and your community.
- Better and potentially more opportunities you will have through it all!
- Better lives, and work ethic and thankfulness each generation can have and enjoy
- Better kind of tired at the end of most days.
Just remember, intake starts with what you are willing to output. What I mean is, that if you put out the effort as stated in the above paragraph, as well as the physical output, your intake of response by your surrounding community… and land and food will be greater and healthier overall.
Soon, it will be too late and much more effort and relearning will be needed to not only undo what has become, but to remember what real foods actually tasted like. I was cutting a peach for a smoothie a couple days ago and thought, it’s kinda hard and white on the inside, and I was told, it really taste good! I immediately thought back to my mom’s peach trees and actual taste of fresh real peaches. Nothing like the picked early, pre-ripened factory (millions of peaches… song reference). We have already forgotten what good food is and the new or existing replacements are becoming the new “good”. Very Sad.
A community with sustainable land, water, air and food which we have to protect is vital to everyone. Our health, abilities, aging and future are mapped from everywhere we live, drink and eat from. If we are not careful, we will not even notice it is disappearing. And if we do notice, we will blindly, or not wanting to consider the outcome, totally ignore the signs altogether.
