Progress

What is it? What does it mean? How does it happen? I am certain many of your responses will be drastically different. I believe it all depends on your point of view, beliefs or your world view… Message me and tell me what you think progress means.

Progress in the religious sense is to ultimately witness to others to come to the belief, faith and salvation and pure love and righteous judgement which Jesus Christ offers. Within this sense, progress would also include the ability of all human beings to work together for Him. This also, also as a saving byproduct would ensure our world is not harmed by any intentional financial, agricultural, environmental or unstainable way. Even though this is not intended to be our eternal home.

Even if your views are economic, environmental or non-faith based progress driven, your end goals would or should be for sustainability. Unless greed for your lifetime is your soul purpose for the progress. Which by the direction our world is currently going, greed and uncaring is the motive for the majority with the most power to influence and drive true and right progress.

I intentionally walked into a protest the other day just as it started to rain. It was for the movement to raise the minimum wage to $15.00. I has to ask and see if this was a rational mob or just a passive following of individuals that really were not informed. It was the latter. A simple question with an answer that did not fit. Why are you protesting, I said? “The CEO of McDonalds makes $8 million a year” I attempted to follow up with “so what” as to hopefully make my point. Which is, do you know that if you make the minimum wage $15 that the burden on the company is not only take on by the McDonalds, but the entrepreneur, small businesses and startups that make up the majority of our small town, and small businesses. These jobs will disappear, your ability to start your own as well.

Oh yeah, Progress and the Animal Agriculture (the main topic of my blog, remember). Let me tie it all together for you.

CAFO’s and the 91 million acres of land being used to feed these animals we eat, which are not sustainable or healthy for the human being, are the main cause of the increase in decreasing health, disease and premature death for all in this country.   This is part of progress in this country. Where we paid the farmer to not plant a crop, or subsidized them knowing there was not a sustainability potential, and continued to subsidize even when financially profitable. Destroying the land, by not growing the multitude of edible plants we need to maintain health, support the wildlife and insects that enhance our land and plants. Degrading our land to the point of losing the natural nutrients it once had, not planting the foods we need a variety of to maintain our natural health, to where we have to buy those foods imported from another country or an overburden part of our country that is under its own over use and land and water constraints. Progress under this scenario we live in is not progress.

Progress for those in every facet of the health care, pharmaceutical, and government, especially big business who fund or back them, is a slow and uncomfortable unhealthy life, leading all of us human beings to death. The only Sustainability this type of progress is interested in is revenue and profit. But it’s not meant for you, unfortunately.

A country that was beautiful, and still has its areas that are. Unfortunately we live without remembering the struggle to grow something of our own, or assist in the endeavor because we have the new struggle of making ends meet, having enough time to do what we think is important. This has led us to a tradeoff for the ease of something unstainable and quick so we don’t have to worry about making tilling the land, planting the seed, watering and weeding it during its growth, picking it and preparing it for your meals. When we do not accept the tradeoff, we will become close and knowledgeable of the true purpose of what is normal, acceptable, right and true for each of us, even with our differences.

Back to the protest. They believe this is their progress to have $15/hr minimum wage. Let’s say that happens.

  • Jobs will be lost
  • Less new business and loss of existing businesses
  • Innovation and automation creation to reduce need for paying people
  • Foods will be priced higher in order to offset the higher wage
  • Shortcuts on nutrient deficient and unnatural foods manufactured at a lower price
  • We purchase and consume these nutrient and unnatural foods
  • Further decrease in our health
  • Health care cost increase
  • We need more money
  • They make more money

Thank you.
